BRENTON ROMPS TO CONVINCING
VICTORY AT NSW ATV CHALLENGE
30/Jun/2009
NSW finally managed to stage
a top level ATV race meeting last weekend at
the Barleigh Ranch Raceway near Newcastle.
Organised by staff from Hardiman ATV
Performance Products and ATV racers such as
Mick Roycroft the event was run in
conjunction with the Hunter Motorcycle Club.
The KTM sponsored the event which was hoped
to also qualify for State Championship
status but due to the fact that the track
was utilised the weekend before ruled the
NSW ATV Challenge not recognised for State
Championship status.
Organisers were also somewhat disappointed
at the lack of entries from interstate
despite a very reasonable $60 entry fee for
unlimited classes.
The 1.8km clay and loam circuit posed no
problems for Western Australian dynamo Chris
Brenton. The KTM backed entrant dominated
the Pro class with a clear win in each of
the three 15 minute motos.
“I clean swept the pro class quite
convincingly with no competition,” said
Brenton. “I had about a 25 second lead on
the rest of the field, so it wasn’t very
challenging for me. I also raced in the
manufacturer’s class and won my race, but
unfortunately my team mate Len Pipicello
had a crash, so KTM got second for that
class to Kawasaki.
“I rode a stock standard KTM ATV 450 SX,
with only my personal Fasst Flexx bars, and
steering dampener fitted by KTM Newcastle,
other than that it was straight off the
dealership floor.
“My greatest challenge was to see how I
could compete on a stock bike like this,
against other ATV’s that have head a heap of
parts added.
“I’m looking forward to some tougher
competition coming soon for the National ATV
Championship in September, that’s when the
biggest names from all around the country
will compete like Chad McKay, and Ryan
Lancaster. I’m keen to see how hard I can
push myself, and the KTM ATV 450 SX up
against these guys.”
Len Pipicello took out both the Expert and
Veteran categories to earn KTM yet more
silverware.
“I went into this race a little concerned
that I hadn’t ridden since the last Tri
State series over five weeks ago,” said
Pipicello. “Thankfully there was no need
for concern, the KTM ATV 505 SX performed
awesome, and took me to the top of the
podium in both the Expert and Vets class,
and I also secured four holeshots throughout
the event.
“I have been racing ATVs on and off since
1985, and my results have never been so
good. I’m super happy with the mighty KTM
ATV 505 SX, especially its corner handling,
which gave me a competitive edge in all
races.
“My results in the expert class were 1-1-2,
and in the vets 1-1-3, which gave me the
overall title for both classes at the event.
“I also raced in the manufacture’s cup with
my team mate Chris Brenton, he took the
holeshot with me in second. Unfortunately I
tired due to 24 laps previously, and had a
crash, pushing me further down the field,
but Chris still won, and together we secured
second overall in this class.”Pro Results -
